Ironman Hawaii - the oldest long-distance triathlon
The Ironman Hawaii is the oldest long-distance triathlon with 3.86 km (2.4 miles) of swimming, 180.2 km (112 miles) of cycling and 42.195 km (26.2 miles) of running, since the first edition in 1978 at the Birthplace of the Ironman brand on the Hawaiian Islands in the Pacific Ocean. Since 1982, it is annually under the protected since then trademark name Ironman World Championship in October on Big Iceland (previously on O'ahu) aligned. Since the mid-1980s, both amateurs and professional triathletes have been required to qualify for the world-wide competitions licensed or hosted by the trademark owner.
